she left behind. Only now, he’s a hot movie star surrounded by gorgeous
actresses and adoring fans. Bad boy Romeo Garcia never understood why Evie
stood him up at the prom. When he rescues her from a flying coconut in the
dumpster, he is determined to dig into her heart for the reason. Their mutual
attraction and unresolved feelings ignite in a scintillating night of daring
sex, and Romeo shows Evie what she’ll miss the rest of her life if she walks
away again. Evie lands a part as Romeo’s co-star and falls into her role,
totally in love. He plays his part, too, with his romantic gestures and
skillful lovemaking. But is the fantasy real or revenge? Evie and Romeo are
about to discover if their buried feelings will explode in pure delight or
utter disaster.

My Review:

Taming Romeo is my second book by Rachelle and I quite enjoyed the cover at first glance. Promising a hot romance, the book does deliver some very sensuous and even erotic scenes. Then the blurb is also very intriguing and quite successful in pulling the reader towards the book at the initial glance.

While the cover and blurb live upto their expectations, I cant say the same about the story. Having read Rachelle’s work before I was hoping for more planning on the characterization and a better clarity on the story line. Evie is confused and weak. I could initially empathize with her dilemmas of her past where she left Romeo for her studies but then couldn’t she atleast say goodbye and explain her decision to him since Romeo was such a close friend. Then even in the present she is not strong enough to decide what she wants and I just thought that she only whined all the time.

I loved Romeo’s character and thought that he was sweet, understanding and clear on the fact that he loved Evie and would do anything for her which he proved in the story. Evie’s family was a cute pack who were adorable at one time and also frustrating at the other. I just could not understand the unwanted pressure they were exerting on Evie as if everything that went wrong was her fault even if the person responsible was someone else. I didn’t like Genie who I felt resembled some people I have met in my own life and who I don’t like one bit!

The Filipino cuisine and the culture is beautifully highlighted and I loved this aspect of the book. The traditional words were cumbersome at times because I didn’t know what they meant and had to consult the glossary every time, thus, breaking my reading flow. But all this I happily ignore in return of the deep look I got at a culture so different than my own!

The plot is predictable and the story stays slow in the first half and then suddenly picks up pace in the second with the ending coming abruptly. Evie’s return to college and her final happily-ever-after is just too abrupt. What happened to all those obstacles? They just seem to go down suddenly with no clear base.

The romantic scenes between Evie and Romeo are sensuous and can even be said to be on Erotic themes but they are entertaining and I loved them so I cant complain here!

Although the book is part of a series, it can be read as a standalone.

All in all a breezy read, I give Taming Romeo  a 3.5 out of 5.

I received the book to read and review from the author and the tour organizers and I am very thankful to them. The above review is my honest and unbiased opinion and in no way influenced.
