Title and Author:
The Omega Children: The return of the Marauders- Book 1 by Shane A. Mason

  • Paperback: 470 pages
  • Publisher: Shane A Mason (June 21, 2013)
  • Language: English
  • Genre: Action & Adventure, Mystery, Occult, Supernatural

Synopsis:
Four cousins – two guys, Ari and Quixote, and two girls, Melaleuca and Lexington face a great mystery – what has become of their parents? Who attacked them and why? As they try to answer these questions, they are whisked away against their will to a 1600 year old civilization hidden between New Zealand and the South Pole – only to find questions greater than the whereabouts of their parents.

Raised by their parents miles from anywhere, the cousins have spent their life without rules, and instead have been taught how to teach themselves and how to have strong boundaries. Most unusual of all is they play games all day long instead of going to school.

When their valley is attacked by unknown men, they are hidden in the hills by their parents and Melaleuca is put in charge. They are told to carry on playing games, which strikes them all as odd – the smoke and fire are real are they not?

A would be rescuer turns up and leads them to this hidden civilization – and to the truth of their parents’ past, and a secret hidden for hundreds of years.

They discover a room full of thousands of costumes dating back thousands of years. Wearing the costumes transfers the costumes abilities and powers to the wearer. The costumes are the key to solving the many mysteries that unfold before them.

Though what at first seems like a fun adventure becomes ominous as events turn deadly serious.

My Review:
The first thing that attracted me to this book was the cover which is presented like a high adventure comic book cover and promises high drama and action. Beautiful and eye catching, it appeals to the reader at first glance. The story is of four cousins and their misadventures while on the mission to find their missing parents. Shane creates a lively and vivid picture of a setting set amidst beauty and nature. The characters are down to earth people and although their situations are very fantastical yet they are able to connect with the reader.

The story starts slowly but soon picks up pace to give many nail biting moments. The plot is novel and unconventional and feels like a breath of fresh air. I loved the story and the cousins. They made me relive my days of reading Secret Seven and the Famous Five. 🙂

The book could have been made more concise and the length shortened. But other than this The Omega Children: The return of the Marauders- Book 1 is a very engaging read from a very promising author and sure to prove a great timepass on a holiday. The story packs a punch and leaves you wanting more. Thoroughly entertaining and must read, I give it a 4 out of 5 and look forward to reading more from the author. A very promising start to a very interesting series, if you love books with fantasy, adventure and drama then this book is for you. 🙂

I received the book from the author to read and review and I am very thankful to him. The above review is my honest and unbiased opinion and in no way influenced.
