Title and Author: Impulse by Reekrit Serai
Publication Date: Rumour Books India; 1 edition (July 13, 2013)
Print Length: 85 Pages
Language: English
Genre: Short Stories, Indian Writing
My Review:
A collection of short stories on varied human emotions that touch our heart and also leave a message behind when the story ends. This sums up Reekrit’s book Impulse which contains stories that are ordinary, dealing with our everyday life but still become special owing to the author’s sensitivity and his skill of presenting them.
The cover is eye catching and attracts the reader. The blurb is intriguing and promises a book different from any other out there in the market. The pricing is a bit on the higher side but then the book compensates by giving the readers a ride of their lifetime.
Super short stories that will, each, take hardly five minutes to read, I was mesmerized, touched and left feeling myriad of emotions after reading them. A short account of a father and son sitting in a park. So ordinary and even boring. What is so special here? I mean everyone at one time or the other has sat with their children or parents in a park. But then Reekrit narrates an incident that jolts us, shocks us, opens our eyes and makes us analyze if we are any different or just like the characters in the story. Small small incidents that interest us, entice us, make us count our blessing and even make us cry, I was thoroughly touched and impressed by the book and the author.
The writing style is engaging yet simple. Simple straight forward dialogues are used with such skill that they render even the most usual stories, exceptional. The author has knowledge of human emotions, life of modern Indian people and the complexities that assail us and he expertly uses this knowledge to weave some very inspirational and eye opening stories.
This was my first book by this author and I could not find fault in his writing. Duly impressed I look forward to reading more from him in the future.
A book that can be read while travelling, on a holiday or to inspire friends and family, I give Impulse a 4.5 out of 5. A strong recommendation that you go and read the book. I don’t say that you will find out of the world stories here. No the stories are conventional even predictable. They are about our everyday boring life but still they hold something special. They make us look at our boring and unsatisfactory life through different glasses and what we see is something that makes us realize that life is not perfect. We are not perfect but still have somethings that other people only dream about!
A hard hitting short story collection that will take you on the ride of your life, go read this beautiful book and you wont regret it. 🙂
I received the book from the Publishers (Rumour Books India) and the author and I am very thankful to them. The above review is my honest and unbiased opinion and in no way influenced.
