ARC Book Review:
Happy Ever After in Christmas by Debbie Mason is the newest installment in her Christmas, Colorado series and as always takes us on a memorable trip to the small but never boring town of Christmas in Colorado!

While part of a series, this book can be read as a standalone but it is always preferred that you read the books in a series in order so you can better understand the characters that often times have already appeared in previous books before becoming the protagonists in the current one like in this book, the protaginist, Jill Flaherty had already made an appearance in the previous book, Kiss Me in Christmas!

Deputy Jill Flaherty is tough and anyone who knows her will vouch for her tomboyish dressing and absolutely no girly afflictions. The only man Jill has ever loved is Sawyer, a known player both literally and with women. Her older brother’s best friend, he has always cared for Jill but in a platonic way. Now fast approaching thirty, Jill faces a lonely life of a spinster or she can brave her fears and ask Sawyer out once and for all.

I had immensely enjoyed the previous book, Kiss Me in Christmas and ever since been eager to read the next drama filled romance and revisit the always lively and full of gossip town of Christmas. I was so fortunate to receive an invitation to read an ARC and I am so thankful to the publishers. This book is just as entertaining and even better than the previous one.

I loved meeting all my favourite residents of Christmas like Chloe and Easton from Kiss Me in Christmas who are now happily married and so happy! I also got to meet Gage, Vivi, Chance, Nell and Ty. Nell who had seemed so vicious and bitter in the previous book with her rudeness and gossipy nature is shown in a different light in this book. The author beautifully shows us the flip side to her personality and the reasons that made her in this bitter and hurtful old woman no one likes. I got misty eyed when I truly understood her past and present actions and was so happy when the events took a favourable turn for her. She even redeemed herself in my eyes by acting as a guide and a motherly figure to the heroine. So getting to know Nell better was a definite highlight for me.

Jill had intrigued me in the previous book with her tough act but could not hide her longing for a family of her own. She is loyal, always puts her loved ones’ needs before her own and has no confidence in her power as a woman thinking she is not pretty enough to attract a handsome man like Sawyer. Right from the start I rooted for her and was thoroughly entertained by her adventures in trying to ask Sawyer out which were sometimes funny and sometimes even sad that my heart went out to her plight.

Sawyer is a good man but he has spent so much time in convincing everyone around him that he is a player that no one now can even think that all this time he has been yearning for a family of his own. He likes Jill but is always dissuaded against pursuing his interest in her by her brother and his best friend, Jack and knowing that he can values his friendship with Jack too much to hamper it this way, Sawyer has stayed away from Jill all these years. But once his attraction grows towards her, will he choose his friendship or take a risk with Jill?

The romance between Jill and Sawyer was full of surprises and while passionate, I was kept on the edge of my seat because every time I thought I had their relationship figured out, they gave me a shock!

Jack, Jill’s brother is over protective of his sister and thinks no man is good enough for her; definitely not Sawyer who is fickle and a Casanova not interested in relationships so he is always warning Sawyer to stay away from his sister. While I understood his motivation in warning away Sawyer, I also felt a bit mad at him. In my opinion, he should let Jill decide who she wants to be with. People like Jack often times inadvertently cause more harm in their loved ones lives like he did in Jill’s with so many years wasted when Sawyer who clearly liked her and her him could not move ahead in their relationship due to his meddling.

The story moves fast and had me hooked all through. The author threw unexpected twists and turns in the story and every time I thought I had the next scene figured out I was floored!

The writing style is expressive and fluid and I experienced each and every scene and emotion like I was there and everything was happening to me. I love Debbie’s writing style and she shows her prowess in this one too. She had me laughing, crying, feeling frustrated and angry and then determined to get the happily-ever-after all in the span of this story.

All in all, Happy Ever After in Christmas truly had me entertained throughout and then left me feeling all happy and cheerful like it was I who had got a Happy Ever After in Christmas! 4.5 out of 5 to it and recommended to all romance lovers. I am now eagerly waiting for the next book in this series and cant wait to visit Christmas, Colorado again!

I received the book from the publishers via Netgalley and I am very thankful to them. The above review is my honest and unbiased opinion and in  no way influenced.
