#AtoZChallenge: E for EKLAVYA

This is my first time participating in the A to Z Blogging Challenge and I am so excited!
My blog posts all through April will follow the theme: “My favourite Indian comics/cartoon characters.”
With letter E, I had to think sometime before I remembered about Eklavya. I read a comics feature of this Indian mythological character from the Mahabharat era and absolutely loved it.

Eklavya was the son of a tribal King and deeply interested in learning the art of archery. Seeing his son’s dedication towards his aim of learning archery, the tribal King decided to seek the assistance of Guru Dronacharya. However, since Eklavya was from a lower caste, Dronacharya refused to teach him because he only taught students from higher castes or Princes.

Broken hearted but still determined to learn archery, he decided to self teach himself and made a mud statue of Dronacharya and started practicing in front of the statue. Despite the denial of Dronacharya to teach him, Eklavya still held Dronacharya in high regard and thought of him as his teacher. Through perseverance and determination, Eklavya became the best archer, even better than Arjun who was the best student of Dronacharya!

This story taught me never to lose faith, persevere and strive to achieve my dreams no matter what the difficulties. A great source of motivation and learning, the story of brave Eklavya continues to inspire and enlighten even today!
