Book Review: The Nidhi Kapoor Story by Saurabh Garg
The Nidhi Kapoor Story is the story of a Bollywood film star, Nidhi Kapoor who is being threatened by an unknown person and to protect her, ACP Prakash Mohile is assigned to solve the mystery of the attacker as well as keep the actress safe.
But as he starts to investigate, Prakash Mohile soon realizes that this case is not the simple stalker fan case as he had imagined. He would have to sift through layers of family secrets and dirty laundry to get to the assailant who is getting bolder and bolder with each attack from mauling Nidhi’s pets to threatening letters!
Can he solve the case before something drastic happens?
The premise of the story intrigued me the first time I came across this book. Being a lover of mysteries, I really really got intrigued when I read the blurb and the saw the smoky cover featuring a blurred image of a girl.
Hoping for an intense, brain teasing and thrilling suspense, I was not dissappointed and loved the start of the book. The way the author painted the whole lifestyle of the mega film star with her scary childhood with an egoistic and chauvinistic father; and gave an introduction to the tough nut ACP. I was already sufficiently intrigued. The suspense and thrill is maintained till the latter part with the mysterious assailant able to enter and leave the heavily guarded house without anyone noticing and the fluid transitions from the frightening but also heart wrenching flashbacks from the present to the past.
Although the plot is nothing very extraordinary, still I was engaged and glued to my seat. The characters and pace are beautifully handled by the author and I loved how he was able to throw so many characters in the story and yet give them their own limelight.
Nidhi is an enigmatic character and despite all those detailed flashbacks into her traumatic past, I still feel like I didn’t get to know her properly. She is the main character in the story but still remains absent for most part. I would have loved to see more of her in the story and get an insight into her mind.
Prakash is hardworking and very sincere. His diligent work ethics and his sharp mind made me place him in the mold of a promising detective in my mind.
Rujuta is energetic, hardworking and inspite of being a secondary character, she overshadowed everyone in the book. While I loved her story too, I still sometimes had to remind myself that it was Nidhi’s story that I was reading!
I also liked the other characters and wholeheartedly hated Nidhi’s father whose character is a magnificent study of human behaviour.
I loved how the author kept the narrative crisp and left calculated clues at each turn keeping the readers engaged all through.
While I enjoyed reading this book, there are a few things I think needed more attention like the need I felt to read more background on characters like Rujuta, Prakash etc., many subplot angles were left unanswered like the one with Prakash and why Nidhi’s sister didn’t become what she had been training to be since childhood, the end also just frizzled out and wasn’t as explosive as I thought it would be and the justification at the end just didn’t appeal to me. There could have been so many other ways to do what was done by the assailant to achieve the desired results.
Anyhow, overall I enjoyed reading The Nidhi Kapoor Story with its many twists and turns with multiple nail biting moments. A perfect leisure read with plenty of emotional play, good suspense and believable characters, I give it 4 stars out of 5 and recommend it to everyone.
I received the book from the author and I am very thankful to him. The above review is my honest and unbiased opinion and in no way influenced.
