Book Review:
Say You’ll Love Me by Ally Broadfield is the first book in the Unexpected Suitor series as well as the first book by the author that I have read. A quick regency era romance with a murder mystery, this is the story of Abigail whose betrothal function takes a turn for the worse when the dead body of a maid is found and her own fiance is accused of murder! Confused and feeling lost, she is helped by Lord Longcroft who is also the brother of her best friend in helping solve this mystery and exonerate her fiance. But in all this what Abigail doesn’t account for is the attraction for Lord Longcroft that she feels.

I was intrigued by the blurb and picked up the book to read. This is a quick read and while said to be a romance, the romance is not developed much and everything happens too swiftly to take root. The book is fast paced and the mystery is good but still the solution looked half cooked and could have been handled better. The romance between Abigail and Edmund is also not developed and just happens, too lightly portrayed to get me engaged and connect with them.

The author’s writing style is simple and fluid but she could have been ,more crisp and engaging. I will be checking out her future books before I make up my mind about her style.

All in all, Say You’ll Love Me by Ally Broadfield is a light, quick and leisure read that is nothing very memorable but still entertains while it lasts. 3 out of 5 to it.

I received the book from the publishers via Netgalley and I am very thankful to them. The above review is my honest and unbiased opinion and in no way influenced.
