Book Review:

The Soldier Prince by Aarti V. Raman sounded intriguing and beckoned me right from the first moment I heard about it.

A spare Royal Heir running from his past demons and living a life of anonymity as a construction worker is attacked one night. A waitress tries to save him but is injured. Fearing a future attack, both are whisked back to Stellangard, the Prince’s homeland. A forbidden romance, a determined enemy hellbent on harming the Prince and anyone near him including the waitress and a rich cast of characters fighting their own battles to balance love and responsibility, this book is an experience that left me thoroughly entertained and wanting more!

I love Aarti V. Raman’s daring storytelling where she doesn’t keep anything tame. Her stories, characters, emotional play, and settings are all brutally frank with no concern for coming out as perfect. I like how everything is so real like, unperfect, slightly grey and never predictable.

Prince Alexander comes out as emotionally cold, detached and arrogant at first but then as the story progresses we come to see so many layers to his character. Sasha seems too naive and simple at first with her see no evil attitude but then we get to see inside her character to the strong woman that she is, determined to make her way in the world on her own terms.

The romance between Alexander and Sasha is heartbreakingly real-like where despite all their efforts to fight the attraction, a heart wants what a heart wants. I laughed, cried and rooted for a happily-ever-after for these two all through the book and then roamed my house grabbing any and everyone to tell them about this book.

No work got done until I had finished this book and then right after I searched each day for the next book to appear which thankfully finally did in December in the form of a prequel novella, A night out with the Royals that I instantly downloaded to read. Such is my fascination with this series!

Apart from the protagonists, I fell in love with other characters in this book and the subplot of the royal family was as interesting as the main plot. I am eager to read Michael, Alexander’s elder brother’s story now. He is enigmatic and has me intrigued.

It is very difficult to make stories that sound similar to so many others stand out and I have read many royal romances that I didn’t think this one would be anything but a one time read. However, I was proved wrong. This book makes its own distinct place and has become one of my favourite books of 2018.

Interesting, engrossing, memorable and so well written, The Soldier Prince is everything a romance lover wants in a book. It has strong characters, a crisp story, a well-balanced suspense element and a hot romance that made me sigh in contentment at all the right places.

I give it 4.5 super shiny stars out of 5 and Njkinny recommends it to everyone. I am taking away a half star from my rating because of the ending that despite being a HEA felt incomplete. I felt like Alexander and Sasha still had so much to accomplish before their true HEA.

4.5 stars rating

I look forward to reading the upcoming books in this series and congratulate the author on a job well done!
