Book Review:
The Vines by Christopher Rice is the first book by the author that I have read and I got attracted towards this book because of the intriguing cover and the title. A lover of mystery, the blurb too appealed to me.
This book is unlike any I have read so far and definitely nothing like what I assumed at first glance. While the plot is interesting, I got the creeps reading about evil plants, insects and what not. Not a big fan of weird plants and bugs, I was a bit uncomfortable reading this book.
I cant fault the author’s writing. He has a fluid style and had me interested despite my unease but still all the time I felt like something was missing in the story. The story didnt have a set goal on what it wanted to show. The explanation for stuff was not convincing at times and the characters while promising felt a bit underdeveloped.
The scene development, however, is admirable and the author managed to frighten me and had me horrified at imagining all those evil abominations.
All in all, The Vines by Christopher Rice had potential and while I enjoyed the scenes development, the story fell short of achieving its true potential. 3 out of 5 to it and recommended to horror fans.
I will be checking out the other works by the author in the future.
I received the book from the publishers via Netgalley and I am very thankful to them. The above review is my honest and unbiased opinion and in no way influenced.
