I shifted to Ghaziabad last year which is a city in India in the state of Uttar Pradesh (UP). It’s sometimes referred to as the “Gateway of UP) because it neighbors New Delhi, the capital of India and is the main route to UP. It is the part of National Capital Region of Delhi and basically an industrial town. Not very scenic in itself, there are many places of interest in the surrounding areas like Red Fort, Akshardham Temple, Qutub Minar, Jama Masjid, Lotus Temple, Lodi Gardens, Rashtrapati Bhavan, Garden of Five senses, India Gate etc.
Delhi’s most famous monument, the Red Fort, stands as a powerful reminder of the Mughal emperors who ruled India. To take your imagination back to the ancient era, a one hour sound and light show of the fort’s history is held each evening.
Also referred to as Delhi Akshardham or Swaminarayan Akshardham, the complex displays millennia of traditional Hindu and Indian culture, spirituality, and architecture.
The towering archway of India Gate at the center of New Delhi is a war memorial, built in memory of the Indian soldiers who lost their lives fighting for the British Army in World War I.
Jama Masjid is another marvelous treasure of the Old City, and is the largest mosque in India.
Jantar Mantar was built in 1724 by Raja Jai Singh II of Jaipur in Delhi. Jantar Mantar of Delhi, is an astronomical observatory with masonry instruments. Jantar Mantar in Delhi is a remarkable and curious creation of Raja Jai Singh II, the mathematician and astronomer king. Jantar Mantar has instruments that can graph the path of the astronomical universe.
The Bahai Temple is commonly referred to as the Lotus Temple, as it’s shaped like a lotus flower. It’s particularly pretty at night, when it’s attractively lit up. Made out of white marble, the temple belongs to the Bahai Faith, which proclaims the unity of all people and religions. Everybody is welcome to worship there.
Qutab Minar, the tallest brick minaret in the world, is an incredible example of early Indo–Islamic architecture. It was built in 1206, but the reason remains a mystery. Some believe that it was made to signify victory and the beginning of Muslim rule in India, while others say it was used to call the faithful to prayer.
The Rashtrapati Bhawan is a renowned monument in Delhi. It is said to be the palace of the then Viceroy of India. At present, the Rashtrapati Bhawan is house of the President of India.
Taj Mahal is among the seven wonders of the world and was built by the Mughal emperor Shah Jahan in the memory of his third wife, Mumtaz Mahal.
The Garden of Five Senses is another peaceful place to come to escape the hustle and bustle of the city. However, it’s no ordinary garden. As its name suggests, the Garden of Five Senses has been specifically designed to awaken all five senses.
These are some of the places of interest in the surrounding cities of New Delhi and Agra.
