in your story that they want to continue following the same couple until they
find their HEA. Series allow a writer to dive into the characters’ history,
making the story more interesting. The cons about a series are: readers hate
waiting for the next one to be completed, they hate cliffhangers even more and
if an unfamiliar reader picks up your book not knowing it’s part of a series,
they’ll let you know how frustrated they are that they read the second instead
of the first book.
Standalone:
I haven’t written a standalone as this is my debut novel of a series. I can
understand why readers love standalones: no waiting, they get “the end” at the
end of the book instead of a “to be continued”, biting on their nails,
wondering what will happen next. 😉
